Ghazal 68

ماهم این هفته برون رفت و به چشمم سالی‌ست

حالِ هجران تو چه دانی که چه مشکل حالی‌ست؟

مردم دیده ز لطفِ رخِ او در رخِ او

عکس خود دید، گمان برد که مشکین خالی‌ست

می‌چکد شیر هنوز از لبِ هم‌چون شکرش

گر چه در شیوه‌گری هر مژه‌اش قَتّالی‌ست

ای که انگشت‌نمایی به کرم در همه شهر

وه که در کارِ غریبان، عَجَبَت اِهمالی‌ست

بعد از اینم نَبُوَد شائبه در جوهرِ فرد

که دهانِ تو در این نکته خوش استدلالی‌ست

مژده دادند که بر ما گذری خواهی کرد

نیّتِ خیر مگردان که مبارک فالی‌ست

کوهِ اندوهِ فراقت به چه حالت بکِشد؟

حافظِ خسته که از ناله تنش چون نالی‌ست

The down (the world's up-springing) of the true Beloved's cheek, — eclipsed is the moon— by which, Is a joyous ring

but path is none out from it.

The eye-brow (the world, the stage of acquisition of love) of the Friend (God) is the corner (-stone) of the prayer-arch of fortune

There, thy face rub; thy need (the degrees of the first and the last world; and the ladders of loftiest stages) ask from Him.

O thou (that art) the draught-drinker (the holy traveller) of the assembly of Jamshid (the murshid, perfect and excellent)! thy heart keep pure

For a mirror this is the cup world-viewing (the heart of the murshid).

Alas for it. The (hypocritical) conduct of the men of the monastery ('abids and

the -austere ones, who for deceiving men, made wailing) me, a wine- worshipper, made.

Behold this smoke (of their hypocritical wailing and sighing) —

black (with wine- worshipping) became my book by which!

'aks khod did, gaman bord ke moshkin khali-st

mi-chakad shir hanuz az lab ham-chon shakarash

gar che dar shive-gari har mazhe-ash ghattali-st

ey ke anagasht-namaii be karam dar hame shahr

vae ke dar kar ghariban, 'ajabat ehmali-st

ba'd az ainm nabud sha'ebe dar juhre farad

ke dahan to dar in nokte khosh asatadlali-st

mozhde dadand ke bar ma gazri khaahi kard

nayayte khir magardan ke mabark fali-st

kuh anduhe faraght be che halt bakeshd?

hafez khaste ke az nale tanash chon nali-st
