Ghazal 472

اَحمَدُ اللهَ عَلی مَعْدِلَةِ السُلطانِ

احمدِ شیخ اُوِیسِ حسنِ ایلخانی

خانِ بِنْ خان و شهنشاهِ شهنشاه‌نژاد

آن که می‌زیبد اگر جان جهانش خوانی

دیده نادیده به اقبال تو ایمان آورد

مرحبا ای به چنین لطف خدا ارزانی

ماه اگر بی تو برآید به دو نیمش بزنند

دولت احمدی و معجزهٔ سبحانی

جلوهٔ بخت تو دل می‌برد از شاه و گدا

چشم بد دور که هم جانی و هم جانانی

برشکن کاکل ترکانه که در طالع توست

بخشش و کوشش خاقانی و چنگزخانی

گر چه دوریم به یاد تو قدح می‌گیریم

بعد منزل نبود در سفر روحانی

از گل پارسیم غنچهٔ عیشی نشکفت

حبّذا دجله بغداد و می ریحانی

سر عاشق که نه خاک در معشوق بود

کی خلاصش بود از محنت سرگردانی

ای نسیم سحری خاک در یار بیار

که کند حافظ از او دیدهٔ دل نورانی

O breeze (murshid)! thy passing by the dwelling of the (true) Beloved, keep not back

For the wretched lover (Hafiz), news of Him (the true Beloved) keep not back.

O rose! in thanks that, to thy heart's desire, thou blossomedest, From

the bird of the morning (the bulbul), the breeze of union keep not back.

(O true Beloved!) on one glance of Thine, is dependent all our desire: From old friends, this much keep not back. Now, that the fountain of sugar (the water of life) is Thy sweet ruby (lip), Utter speech

and from the parrot (Hafiz), sugar (the true Beloved) keep not back. 5.

When thou wast the new moon (in the beginning of youthful beauty), I was thy companion: Now, that (in beauty) thou art the full moon, (from the state of me foolish) the glance (of mercy) keep not back, Mean (small) and contracted is the world

and all that in it is: (O true Beloved!), from the people of divine knowledge, this contracted por- tion—— keep not back.

To the (far) horizon, taketh the poet thy deeds noble and generous

From him, allowance and provision for the journey keep not back.

(O praised One!) since thou desirest good mention (of thy self), this the mat- ter

— In respect of the price of speech (good mention), silver and gold keep not back.

Hafiz! grief's dust departeth

better cometh thy state: From this thoroughfare, the water of thy eye (tears) keep not back. 2.

The first line appeareth in Ode 292, c. 2. 5. Towards my miserable state, incline

for, from one's sight, it is not proper to cast the cherished one. 6.

To the last line add:— So that, in the contracted portion, they may not be captive

and out of Thy love, remain. 8. Gifts to poets, grudge not. 9.

Weep; make no diminution thereof. For, from

weeping, better thy state becometh. 3 T 2

dide nadide be aghbal to aiman avard

mah agar bi to barayad be do nimsh bazananad

dolat ahamdi o m'jaz-ye sabhani

jelve bakht to del mi-bord az shah o geda

cheshm bad dowr ke ham jani o ham janani

barashakan kakl tarkane ke dar tal' tost

bakhashash o kushsh khaghani o chanagazkhani

gar che durim be yad to ghadah mi-girim

ba'd manzel nabud dar safar ruhani

az gol parsim ghonche 'ishi nashakafat

hababza dajle baghdad o mi rihani

sar 'ashegh ke na khak dar ma'shugh bud

key khalassh bud az mahanat saragardani

ey nasim shari khak dar yar biyar

ke konad hafez az u did-ye del nurani
