Ghazal 400

بالابلندِ عِشْوِه‌گرِ نقش‌بازِ من

کوتاه کرد قصّهٔ زُهْدِ درازِ من

دیدی دلا که آخرِ پیری و زُهْد و عِلْم

با من چه کَرْد دیدهٔ معشوقه‌بازِ من؟

می‌ترسم از خرابیِ ایمان که می‌بَرَد

مِحْرابِ ابرویِ تو، حُضورِ نمازِ من

گفتم به دَلْقِ زَرْق بپوشم نشانِ عشق

غَمّاز بود اَشْک و عَیان کرد رازِ من

مست است یار و یادِ حریفان نمی‌کُنَد

ذکرش به خیر‌، ساقیِ مِسْکین‌نوازِ من

یا رب کی آن صبا بِوَزَد کز نسیمِ آن

گَرْدَد شمامهٔ کَرَمَش، کارسازِ من؟

نقشی بر آب می‌زنم از گریه، حالیا

تا کی شود قرینِ حقیقت، مجازِ من

بر خود، چو شمع، خنده‌زنان، گریه می‌کنم

تا با تو سنگ‌دل چه کُنَد سوز و سازِ من؟

زاهد؛ چو از نمازِ تو کاری نمی‌رود

هم مستیِ شبانه و راز و نیازِ من

«حافظ»، زِ گریه سوخت بگو حالش ای صبا

با شاهِ دوست‌پرورِ دشمن‌گُدازِ من

One lofty of stature, bold, picture-player of mine Made short the tale (of renown) of the long austerity—— of mine. O heart! thou

sawest at the end of old age, of austerity, and of knowledge, What, with me, it did, — the eye of the beloved of mine?

On account of the water (tears) of the eye, seated on the top of the fire (of distress), I am

(To myself) I said: — " With the garment of hypocrisy, love's trace, I

con- cealed;" The informer was the tear; and made manifest the mystery of mine. 5.

Intoxicated, is the Friend

and recollection of rivals (lovers), maketh not: His mention (be) for good, the Saki, the wretched-cherisher of mine.

The destruction of my faith, I fear. For taketh, The

prayer-arch of Thy eyebrow the presence (essence) of prayer of mine.

On myself, like the laughing candle (consuming and melting) I weep, Till I

see what with thee, O heart of stone, maketh (worketh) the consuming of mine.

With weeping, a picture on water I depict. Now, How long associated becometh the truth with the illusory. of mine ? That moment when to an end reached Mahmud's life, Bitterly, he kept surrendering his soul, and saying

goftam be dalghe zargh bapushm neshan 'eshgh

ghammaz bud ashk o 'aian kard raz man

mast ast yar o yad harifan nemi-konad

zakarash be khir-, saghi meskin-nuaze man

ya rab key an saba bevazad kaz nasim an

gardad shamam-ye karamash, karsaze man?

naghshi bar ab mi-zanam az garie, halia

ta key shavad gharine haghighat, majaze man

bar khod, cho sham', khande-zanan, garie mi-konam

ta ba to sanag-del che konad suz o saz man?

zahed; cho az namaz to kari nemi-ravad

ham masti shabane o raz o niaz man

hafez, ze garie sukht begu halsh ey saba

ba shah dust-parure dashaman-godaze man
