Ghazal 38

بی مِهرِ رُخَت روزِ مرا نور نماندست

وز عمر، مرا جز شبِ دیجور نماندست

هنگامِ وداعِ تو ز بس گریه که کردم

دور از رخِ تو، چشمِ مرا نور نماندست

می‌رفت خیالِ تو ز چشمِ من و می‌گفت

هیهات از این گوشه که معمور نماندست

وصلِ تو اَجَل را ز سرم دور همی‌داشت

از دولتِ هجرِ تو کنون دور نماندست

نزدیک شد آن دم که رقیب تو بگوید

دور از رُخَت این خستهٔ رنجور نماندست

صبر است مرا چارهٔ هجرانِ تو لیکن

چون صبر توان کرد که مقدور نماندست؟

در هِجرِ تو گر چشمِ مرا آبِ روان است

گو خونِ جگر ریز که معذور نماندست

حافظ، ز غم از گریه نپرداخت به خنده

ماتم زده را داعیهٔ سور نماندست

Without the sun of Thy cheek, light for my day, hath remained

not And of my life, save the blackest night, aught hath remained not.

At the time of farewell to Thee, from much weeping that I made,

Far (be it) from Thy face! to my eye, light hath remained not.

From my eye, Thy image departed

and said: — " Alas, inhabited (by My image), this corner (of thy eye) hath remained not." (In non-existence, in the world of spirits), union with Thee kept (thought of) death from my head: Now (in this world), from the (ill-) fortune of separation from Thee, far, it (death) — — hath remained not. 5.

Near is that moment when the watcher (Shaitan) shall say:— Far (be he), from thy door!-^— " That abandoned shattered one hath remained not." After this, what profit if the Beloved trouble Himself to see me

For, in my distressed body, a spark of life hath remained not.

hangame vada'e to ze bas garie ke kardam

dowr az rokh to, cheshm mara nur namanadast

mi-raft khiyal to ze cheshm man o mi-goft

hihat az in gushe ke m'mur namanadast

vasl to ajal ra ze saram dowr hami-dasht

az dolat hajr to konun dowr namanadast

nazdik shod an dam ke raghib to baguid

dowr az rakht in khaste ranjur namanadast

sabr ast mara char-ye hejran to liken

chon sabr tavan kard ke maghdur namanadast?

dar hajr to gar cheshm mara ab ravan ast

gu khun jegar riz ke m'zur namanadast

hafez, ze gham az garie napardakht be khande

matm zade ra da'i-ye sur namanadast
