Ghazal 366

ما بدین در نه پِیِ حشمت و جاه آمده‌ایم

از بد حادثه این جا به پناه آمده‌ایم

رهروِ منزلِ عشقیم و زِ سرحدِّ عَدَم

تا به اقلیمِ وجود این همه راه آمده‌ایم

سبزهٔ خطِّ تو دیدیم و زِ بُستانِ بهشت

به طلبکاریِ این مهرگیاه آمده‌ایم

با چُنین گنج که شد خازنِ او روحِ امین

به گدایی به درِ خانهٔ شاه آمده‌ایم

لنگرِ حِلمِ تو ای کشتیِ توفیق کجاست؟

که در این بحرِ کَرَم غرقِ گناه آمده‌ایم

آبرو می‌رود ای ابرِ خطاپوش ببار

که به دیوانِ عمل نامه‌سیاه آمده‌ایم

حافظ این خرقهٔ پشمینه بینداز که ما

از پِیِ قافله با آتشِ آه آمده‌ایم

Not in pursuit of pomp and of pageant, to this door (of the murshid) •.• we have come

For shelter from ill-fortune, here— we have come.

Way-farers of love's stage are we

and from the limits of non-existence, Up to the climes of existence, all this way we have come.

The freshness of Thy down, we saw

and, from the garden of paradise, In search of this love-grass, we have come. With such treasure, whose treasurer is the faithful spirit (Jibra,il), In beggary to the door of the King's house we have come. 5.

O bark of grace (the family of Muhammad)! thy anchor of patience ('Ali Mur-

taza) is where ? For, in this ocean of liberality, immersed in sin we have come.

O cloud, sin-cleansing! honour goeth

(mercy) rain: For in the court of action (as opposed to theory) black of book,— we have come, Hafiz! this woollen khirka (of outward worship) cast.

For (with love's con- suming and melting), From behind the kafila

with the fire of sighing (and wailing) — we have come.

ta be aghlime vajud in hame rah amade-aim

sabaz-ye khat to didim o ze bostane behesht

be talabkarye in mahargiae amade-aim

ba chenin ganj ke shod khazne u ruhe amin

be gadaii be dar khane shah amade-aim

lanagre helme to ey kashatye tufigh kojast?

ke dar in bahre karam gharghe gonah amade-aim

abru mi-ravad ey abre khatapush babar

ke be diuane 'amal name-siyah amade-aim

hafez in kherghe pashmine bindaz ke ma

az peye ghafle ba atash ah amade-aim
