Ghazal 352

روزگاری شد که در میخانه خدمت می‌کنم

در لباسِ فقر کارِ اهلِ دولت می‌کنم

تا کی اندر دام وصل آرم تَذَروی خوش‌خِرام

در کمینم و انتظار وقتِ فرصت می‌کنم

واعظِ ما بوی حق نشنید بشنو کاین سخن

در حضورش نیز می‌گویم نه غیبت می‌کنم

با صبا افتان و خیزان می‌روم تا کویِ دوست

و از رفیقان ره استمدادِ همت می‌کنم

خاکِ کویت زحمت ما برنتابد بیش از این

لطف‌ها کردی بتا، تخفیفِ زحمت می‌کنم

زلفِ دلبر دامِ راه و غمزه‌اش تیرِ بلاست

یاد دار ای دل که چندینت نصیحت می‌کنم

دیدهٔ بدبین بپوشان ای کریمِ عیب‌پوش

زین دلیری‌ها که من در کُنجِ خلوت می‌کنم

حافظم در مجلسی دُردی‌کشم در محفلی

بنگر این شوخی که چون با خلق، صنعت می‌کنم

Although to the city-admonisher, easy this matter becometh not

So long as hypocrisy and deceit, he practiseth, Musulman, he becometh not Learn profligacy and practise liberality.

For not such a great matter is it, That wine, a mere animal drinketh not

and man becometh -not. The jjir! p~] (the great name of God) doeth its work.

O heart! be happy (be not denier of the effects of "The great name ")

For, by fraud and deceit, the (infidel) Div, Musulman • becometh not.

That it may be worthy of bounty, the pure essence is necessary: If not, every (worthless) stone and clod, the (precious

pearl and the coral becometh not. 5.

I teach love; and (hence) my hope, that this noble art (of love),

Like other arts, the cause of disappointment (in the attainment of my object) becometh not.

Last night, He spake saying

— " To-morrow, I give thee thy heart's desire." O God! devise a means, whereby regretful (by breaking his promise) he becometh not.

From God, I seek a good disposition for thy nature, So that again, distressed by thee, our heart becometh not. A sorrowful

one, who, from the physician (the murshid), keepeth secret his pain (of desire) Doubtless, capable of a remedy, his pain becometh not. 1.

The essence of being a Musulman is the abandoning of deceit

and hypocrisy. So long as man chooseth hypocrisy Islam is not his.

ruzgari shod ke dar meykhane khedmat mi-konam

dar labase faghar kar ahl dolat mi-konam

ta key andar dam vasl arm tazarui khosh-kheram

dar kaminm o anatzar vaght farasat mi-konam

vaa'ze ma buy hagh nashnid beshno ka'in sokhan

dar hazursh niz mi-guyam na ghibt mi-konam

ba saba aftan o khizan mi-ravam ta kuy dust

o az rafighan rah asatamdade hemmat mi-konam

khak kuit zhamat ma barantabd bish az in

lotf-ha kardi bata, takhfife zhamat mi-konam

zolf delbar dam rah o ghamze-ash tire balast

yad dar ey del ke chandint nasiht mi-konam

did-ye badbin bapushan ey karime 'eyb-push

zin daliri-ha ke man dar konje khalvat mi-konam

hafazm dar majalsi dordi-kesham dar mahafli

banagar in shukhi ke chon ba khalgh, san't mi-konam
