Ghazal 273

اگر رفیقِ شفیقی، درست پیمان باش

حریفِ خانه و گرمابه و گلستان باش

شِکَنجِ زلفِ پریشان به دستِ باد مده

مگو که خاطرِ عُشّاق، گو پریشان باش

گَرَت هواست که با خِضْر هم‌نشین باشی

نهان ز چشمِ سِکَندَر چو آبِ حیوان باش

زبورِ عشق نوازی نه کارِ هر مرغی است

بیا و نوگُلِ این بلبلِ غزل‌خوان باش

طریقِ خدمت و آیینِ بندگی کردن

خدای را که رها کن به ما و سلطان باش

دگر به صیدِ حرم تیغ برمکش، زنهار

وز آن که با دلِ ما کرده‌ای پشیمان باش

تو شمعِ انجمنی، یک‌زبان و یک‌دل شو

خیال و کوشش پروانه بین و خندان باش

کمالِ دل‌بری و حُسن در نظربازی است

به شیوهٔ نظر، از نادرانِ دوران باش

خموش حافظ و از جورِ یار ناله مکن

تو را که گفت که در رویِ خوب، حیران باش؟

If thou be the compassionate friend, true of covenant, be: The companion of the closet (in grief)

and of the hot bath and of the rose-gar den (in ease) be.

To the power of wine, the curl of thy dishevelled tress give not (so that its per- fume may not agitate lovers): Speak not saying:

— " Say, lovers' hearts agitated—— be." If thine be desire to be (in exaltation) fellow-sitter with Khizr, Hidden from Sikandar's eye, like the water of life, be.

Not the work of every bird is the power of love-playing Come

and of the bulbul, ghazal singing (Hafiz), the new rose (beloved) be. 5.

The path of service, and the usage of attendance-making For God's sake, let go to us

and Sultan be. On the prey (the lovers of God) of the sacred fold, again draw not forth the sword.

Take care! Of what thou hast done with our heart, penitent, be (O true Beloved!) the candle of the assembly Thou art; one of

tongue, one of heart, be The fancy of the moth's effort (in sparing not its own life), behold; and laugh- ing (consuming like the candle)—, be.

In glance-playing, is the perfection of heart-ravishingness and beauty (of beloved ones) Of (the crowd of)

the rare ones of the age, in the art of viewing (and compre- hending others) be. 2.

Speak not saying: — Though lovers' hearts be agitated, this thing, I will do. 3.

All worldly attachments, abandon; from people of fortune be far; from their sight, concealed be.

Hafiz! silence; and of the Beloved's violence, bewail not: Who spake to thee saying:

agar rafighe shafighi, darasat piman bash

harife khane o garmabe o golestan bash

shekanje zolf parishan be dast bad made

magu ke khater 'oshshagh, gu parishan bash

garat huast ke ba khezr ham-neshin bashi

nahan ze cheshm sekandar cho ab hiuan bash

zabure 'eshgh nuazi na kar har marghi ast

biya o nugole in bolbol ghazal-khan bash

tarigh khedmat o aiine bandegi karadan

khadai ra ke raha kon be ma o soltan bash

degar be seyd haram tigh baramakash, zanhar

vaz an ke ba del ma karde-ey pashiman bash

to sham' anajamni, yek-zaban o yek-del sho

khiyal o kushsh parvane bin o khandan bash

kamale del-bari o hosn dar nazarbazi ast

be shive nazar, az nadrane duran bash

khamush hafez o az jowr yar nale makon

to ra ke goft ke dar ruy khub, hiran bash?
