Ghazal 237

نفس برآمد و کام از تو بر نمی‌آید

فغان که بختِ من از خواب در نمی‌آید

صبا به چشمِ من انداخت خاکی از کویش

که آبِ زندگیم در نظر نمی‌آید

قدِ بلندِ تو را تا به بَر نمی‌گیرم

درختِ کام و مرادم به بَر نمی‌آید

مگر به رویِ دلارایِ یارِ ما ور نی

به هیچ وجه دگر کار بر نمی‌آید

مقیمِ زلفِ تو شد دل که خوش سَوادی دید

وز آن غریبِ بلاکش خبر نمی‌آید

ز شَستِ صدق گشادم هزار تیرِ دعا

ولی چه سود یکی کارگر نمی‌آید

بسم حکایتِ دل هست با نسیمِ سحر

ولی به بختِ من امشب سحر نمی‌آید

در این خیال به سر شد زمانِ عمر و هنوز

بلایِ زلفِ سیاهت به سر نمی‌آید

ز بس که شد دلِ حافظ رمیده از همه کس

کنون ز حلقهٔ زلفت به در نمی‌آید

O Breeze! If thy path should chance by the Land of the

Friend. Bring a fragrant waft of air from the beperfumed tress of— the Friend.

By this soul (I swear) that, in thanks, I will surrender my Life (for thee) If thou bring to me a message from the Friend And, if,

even so, in that Presence (difficult of approach), no access be thine, Bring a little dust (as collyrium) for my eye from the door of— the Friend.

I, The beggar, where? The longing desire for union with Him, where? alas!

Perchance, in sleep, I may behold the form of the aspect of the Friend. 5.

My pine-cone-like heart is trembling like the willow, In envy of the form and the pine-like stature of the Friend. Although, the Friend

purchase us not for even a small thing, For a whole world, we sell not a single hair from the head of the Friend.

If his (Hafiz's) heart be free from the bond of grief, what

then? When poor Hafiz is the slave and servant of the Friend.

Only, through the fatigues of water and ashes, doth the

Murid (disciple) reach the conversation of the heart and the soul.

Then, he will be so drawn to God that he may without difficulty turn his face from all exterior to Him. Then, will he know the true meaning of

— Tark, abandonment (of the world). Hakikat, (the stage of) Truth. Harid, living in solitude.

maghime zolf to shod del ke khosh sauadi did

vaz an gharib balaksh khabar nemi-ayad

ze shaste sadagh gashadm hezar tire do'a

vali che sud yaki karagr nemi-ayad

basam hekayat del hast ba nasim sahar

vali be bakht man amashb sahar nemi-ayad

dar in khiyal be sar shod zaman 'omr o hanuz

balaye zolf siaht be sar nemi-ayad

ze bas ke shod del hafez ramide az hame kas

konun ze halghe zalafat be dar nemi-ayad
