Ghazal 227

گر چه بر واعظِ شهر این سخن آسان نشود

تا ریا وَرزَد و سالوس مسلمان نشود

رندی آموز و کَرَم کُن که نه چندان هنر است

حَیَوانی که ننوشد مِی و انسان نشود

گوهرِ پاک بِباید که شود قابلِ فیض

ور نه هر سنگ و گِلی، لؤلؤ و مرجان نشود

اسمِ اعظم بِکُنَد کارِ خود ای دل! خوش باش

که به تَلبیس و حیَل، دیو مسلمان نشود

عشق می‌ورزم و امّید که این فَنِّ شریف

چون هنرهایِ دگر، موجب حِرمان نشود

دوش می‌گفت که «فردا بدهم کامِ دلت»

سببی ساز خدایا که پشیمان نشود

حُسنِ خُلقی ز خدا می‌طلبم خویِ تو را

تا دگر خاطرِ ما از تو پریشان نشود

ذره را تا نَبوَد همّتِ عالی حافظ

طالبِ چشمهٔ خورشیدِ درخشان نشود

As my love (so) the work of Thy beauty took a great perfection

Happy be on this account that, this beauty (of love and of form) hath not (even) a little decline.

In my imagination, it cometh not that in the (vain) imaginings of

wisdom, In any way, should come more beautiful than this a form.

That moment when, with Thee, I may be, the space of one (long) year is (only) a short day

That moment when, without Thee, I may be the (momentary) twinkling of the eye is—— a long year.

Life's delight would have been gained, if, with Thee, for us, Ever in

life (only) one day had been the lot of a great union. 5.

O beloved! in sleep, the image of thy face how may I behold, Because,

out of sleep, my eye seeth naught save an image? On my heart, bestow pity.

For, from love for the lovely face, My powerless body became slender (and_,wan) like anew (crescent) moon. Hafiz! if thou desire union with the Beloved, make no complaint

For thee, on account of separation, is necessary greater than this a load.

rendi amuz o karam kon ke na chandan honar ast

hayauani ke nanushd mi o ansan nashavad

gohar pak bebaid ke shavad ghable feyz

var na har sanag o geli, l'l' o marjan nashavad

asme a'zam bekonad kar khod ey del! khosh bash

ke be talbis o hayal, diu masalman nashavad

'eshgh mi-varazm o omid ke in fanne sharif

chon hanarhaye degar, mujb herman nashavad

dush mi-goft ke farda badaham kam dalat

sabbi saz khadaia ke pashiman nashavad

hosn kholghi ze khoda mi-talabam khuye to ra

ta degar khater ma az to parishan nashavad

zare ra ta nabud hemmat 'ali hafez

talbe chasham-ye khorshid darakhshan nashavad
