Ghazal 222

از سرِ کویِ تو هر کو به ملالت برود

نرود کارش و آخِر به خجالت برود

کاروانی که بُوَد بدرقه‌اش حفظِ خدا

به تَجَمُّل بنشیند، به جَلالت برود

سالک از نورِ هدایت بِبَرَد راه به دوست

که به جایی نرسد گر به ضَلالت برود

کامِ خود آخرِ عمر از مِی و معشوق بگیر

حیفِ اوقات که یک سر به بطالت برود

ای دلیلِ دلِ گم‌گشته! خدا را مددی

که غریب اَر نَبَرَد رَه، به دلالت برود

حکمِ مستوری و مستی همه بر خاتِمَت است

کس ندانست که آخِر به چه حالت برود

حافظ از چشمهٔ حکمت به کف آور جامی

بو که از لوحِ دلت نقشِ جهالت برود

Every one, who on account of shame, away from the head of Thy street, goeth, His work proceedeth not

and, at last, to shame, he goeth.

By the light of guidance (of Muhammad, or of the murshid), the holy traveller seeketh the Path to the (true) Beloved

For to place arriveth not he, who, in error,—— goeth.

At life's end, from wine and the (true) Beloved, take a

pledge (of pleasure) Alas, the time that wholly in idleness goeth!

O guide (the true Beloved, or the murshid) of the heart-lost! for God's sake, a little help

For if the stranger findeth not (the path), by the guide, he — goeth. 5.

The order of sobriety (piety) and of inebriety (impiety) all is at an end

None knoweth to what state at last, he goeth.

The Karvan, whose guide is God's grace In life's enjoyment sitteth

and to greatness—— goeth. Hafiz! from the fountain of philosophy, bring to hand a cup (of wisdom) It may be that, from the heart's tablet, the picture of ignorance goeth.

naravad karsh o akhar be khajalt barud

karuani ke bud badarghe-ash hafze khoda

be tajammol banshind, be jalalt barud

salek az nur hadait bebarad rah be dust

ke be jaii narasad gar be zalalt barud

kam khod akhar 'omr az mi o ma'shugh bagir

hife aughat ke yek sar be batalt barud

ey dalile del gam-gashte! khoda ra maddi

ke gharib ar nabarad rah, be dalalt barud

hokm masturi o masti hame bar khatemat ast

kas nadanast ke akhar be che halt barud

hafez az chasham-ye hekmat be kaf aur jami

bu ke az luhe dalat naghsh jahalt barud
