ای نسیمِ سحر آرامگَهِ یار کجاست؟

منزلِ آن مَهِ عاشق‌کُشِ عَیّار کجاست؟

شبِ تار است و رَهِ وادیِ اَیمَن در پیش

آتشِ طور کجا موعدِ دیدار کجاست؟

هر که آمد به جهان نقشِ خرابی دارد

در خرابات بگویید که هُشیار کجاست؟

آن‌کس است اهلِ بشارت که اشارت داند

نکته‌ها هست بسی مَحرمِ اسرار کجاست؟

هر سرِ مویِ مرا با تو هزاران کار است

ما کجاییم و مَلامت‌گرِ بی‌کار کجاست؟

باز پرسید ز گیسویِ شِکَن در شِکَنَش

کاین دلِ غم‌زده سرگشته گرفتار کجاست؟

عقل دیوانه شد آن سلسلهٔ مُشکین کو؟

دل ز ما گوشه گرفت ابرویِ دلدار کجاست؟

ساقی و مُطرب و مِی جمله مُهَیّاست ولی

عیش بی‌یار مُهیّا نشود یار کجاست؟

حافظ از بادِ خزان در چمنِ دَهر مَرَنج

فکرِ معقول بفرما گُلِ بی‌خار کجاست؟

between day-break and sun-rise. ii. „ noon „ ^isr. iii. „ 'asr „ sun-set. iv.,, sun-set,, feshi.

v. at (or after) &shi. asr is midtime between noon and nightfall, ashi is the time when darkness beginneth.

The beginning of each of these periods is announced by a chaunt

(azan) uttered by a crier (Mu.azzin) from the minaret (madina) of each Masjid.

At each of these periods, the

Muslim uttereth prayers ordained: —

Shiraz (Hafiz's existence) and the water of Ruknabad (love, life-giving), and the breeze of pleasant air (the soul's breathings), - Them, contemn not

for (though contemptible) they are the lustre of adornment of seven territories of the world. days. hrs. m.

We take (spill) not the honour of poverty and of contentment: To

the king, speak saying: — Daily victuals are destined (by the Provider, God).

Hafiz! how strange,' the twig of candy is thy

reed, Whose fruit (verse) is more heart-pleasing than honey and sugar.

ma kajaiim o malamt-gar bi-kar kojast?

baz parsid ze gisuye shekan dar shekanash

ka'in del gham-zade saragashte garaftar kojast?

aghl divane shod an salasal-ye moshkin ku?

del ze ma gushe gereft abruy deldar kojast?

saghi o motreb o mi jamle mohayyast vali

'ish bi-yar mohayya nashavad yar kojast?

hafez az bad khazan dar chaman dahr maranj

fekr m'ghul bafarma gol bi-khar kojast?
