Ghazal 18

ساقیا آمدنِ عید، مبارک بادت

وان مَواعید که کردی، مَرَواد از یادت

در شگفتم که در این مدّتِ ایّامِ فراق

برگرفتی ز حریفان دل و دل می‌دادت

برسان بندگیِ دختر رَز، گو به درآی

که دَم و همّت ما کرد ز بند، آزادت

شادی مجلسیان در قدم و مقدم توست

جای غم باد، مَر آن دل که نخواهد شادت

شکر ایزد که ز تاراجِ خزان رخنه نیافت

بوستانِ سمن و سرو و گل و شمشادت

چشمِ بد دور کز آن تفرقه‌ات بازآورد

طالعِ ناموَر و دولتِ مادرزادت

حافظ از دست مده دولت این کشتی نوح

ور نه طوفانِ حوادث بِبَرَد بُنیادت

When, in prayer, to me recollection of the curve of Thy eye-brow——

came. (Over me such) a state passed that, into lament, the prayer-arch—— came.

Now from me expect neither patience nor the heart of sense

For that patience, that (before) thou sawest, to the wind all— came.

Clear, became the wine; and intoxicated, became the birds of the sward

The season of being a lover; and to foundation, the work - came.

From the world's quarters, I perceive welfare's perfume: Gladness, the rose brought

and joyous the morning breeze came. 5.

O bride of skill (the holy traveller)! complain not of fortune (for that time, whereof thou complainest, hath passed)

Adorn the chamber of beauty (thy own existence).

For the bridegroom, skill understanding, is come. O Yusuf of Egypt! against Zulaikha,

approve not tyranny, For the reason that, on her, all this injustice through love came.

The flowery heart-allurers (the rose, the hyacinth, the sweet basil) all put on jewels (of flowers)

Our heart-ravisher, who is with beauty God-given, - came.

saghiya amadne 'id, mabark badt

vaan maua'id ke kardi, marauad az yaadt

dar shagafatam ke dar in madadte ayyam feragh

baragarafti ze harifan del o del mi-dadt

barsan bandegi dakhatar raz, gu be darai

ke dam o hemmat ma kard ze band, azadt

shadi majalsian dar ghadam o maghadam tost

jay gham bad, mar an del ke nakhaahad shadt

shokr aizd ke ze taraje khazan rakhne niaft

bustane saman o sarv o gol o shamshadt

cheshm bad dowr kaz an tafarghe-at bazaurd

tal'e namvar o dolat madarzadt

hafez az dast made dolat in kashti nuh

var na tufane huads bebarad boniadt
