Ghazal 158

من و انکارِ شراب! این چه حکایت باشد؟

غالباً این قَدَرَم عقل و کِفایت باشد

تا به غایت رهِ میخانه نمی‌دانستم

ور نه مستوری ما تا به چه غایت باشد

زاهد و عجب و نماز و من و مستی و نیاز

تا تو را خود ز میان با که عنایت باشد

زاهد ار راه به رندی نَبَرَد معذور است

عشق کاری‌ست که موقوف هدایت باشد

من که شب‌ها رهِ تقوا زده‌ام با دف و چنگ

این زمان سر به ره آرَم؟ چه حکایت باشد!

بندهٔ پیرِ مغانم که ز جهلم بِرَهانْد

پیرِ ما هر چه کُنَد عینِ عنایت باشد

دوش از این غصه نَخُفتَم که رفیقی می‌گفت

«حافظ ار مست بُوَد جایِ شکایت باشد»

Every one of auspicious sight, who, for happiness, went,- To the corner of the wine-tavern (of retirement)

and to the house of desire (the stage of love, and of divine knowledge) passed.

By means of 'the cup of half a " man," (the Murshid) the holy traveller

of the Path revealed The hidden mysteries (of love) that, in the world of witnessing,— passed.

Come; and hear divine knowledge from me. For, in my

speech, A profitable subtlety of the bounty of the Holy Spirit passed.

From the star of my nativity, seek naught save profligacy. For, with the star of my nativity, this deed passed. 5. From the morning, thou earnest forth by the hand of another

Perchance, from thy memory, the allowance of last night's wine, passed.

Perchance, the physician of 'Isa-breath (the true Beloved) may, by a miracle, strive (to revive me)

For, beyond visiting the work of me shattered passed.

A thousand thanks, that, last night, from the corner of the wine-house (of love),

Hafiz, To the corner of the cloister of devotion and worship (of God), passed.

ghalban in ghadaram aghl o kefait bashad

ta be ghait rah meykhane nemi-danasatm

var na masturi ma ta be che ghait bashad

zahed o ajab o namaz o man o masti o niaz

ta to ra khod ze miyan ba ke 'nait bashad

zahed ar rah be rendi nabarad m'zur ast

'eshgh kari-st ke mughuf hadait bashad

man ke shab-ha rah taghva zade-am ba daf o chang

in zaman sar be rah aram? che hekayat bashad!

bande pir maghanm ke ze jahalam berahand

pir ma har che konad 'ine 'nait bashad

dush az in ghosse nakhoftam ke rafighi mi-goft

hafez ar mast bud jay shakait bashad
