Ghazal 10

دوش از مسجد سویِ میخانه آمد پیرِ ما

چیست یارانِ طریقت بعد از این تدبیرِ ما؟

ما مریدان روی سویِ قبله چون آریم؟ چون

روی سویِ خانهٔ خَمّار دارد پیرِ ما

در خراباتِ طریقت ما به هم منزل شویم

کاین‌چنین رفته‌ است در عهدِ ازل تقدیرِ ما

عقل اگر داند که دل در بندِ زلفش چون خوش است

عاقلان دیوانه گردند از پیِ زنجیرِ ما

رویِ خوبت آیتی از لطف بر ما کشف کرد

زان زمان جز لطف و خوبی نیست در تفسیرِ ما

با دلِ سنگینت آیا هیچ درگیرد شبی

آهِ آتشناک و سوزِ سینهٔ شبگیرِ ما؟

تیرِ آهِ ما ز گردون بگذرد حافظ خموش

رحم کن بر جانِ خود پرهیز کن از تیرِ ما

Such a one am I that the tavern-corner is the cloister of mine

The prayer from the Pir of wine-sellers is the morning task of mine.

Although the melody of the harp of the morning be not mine, what

fear? At morning-time (the resurrection) my cry is the excuse -utterer of mine.

Of the king and of the beggar, 1 am free. Al hamdu-l'illah (God be praised)

! The beggar of the dust of the Friend's door is king of mine!

(O true Beloved!) Through the tavern and the masjid, my desire is union with Thee

Save this, no fancy have 1. God is the witness of mine! 5.

For me, to be Thy beggar,— —better than sovereignty

For submission to Thy tyranny and violence is honour and exaltation of mine.

Perchance, with death's sword, I may up-pluck the tent (of life). If not,

Shunning the door of fortune (the true Beloved) is not the custom of mine.

From that time when, on that threshold of Thine, I placed my face, The sun's lofty throne was the pillow-place of mine. Hafiz! though sin be not our choice, Strive in the way of manners

and say: — "The sin is of mine."

chist yaran tarighat ba'd az in tadbire ma?

ma maridan ruy suye ghable chon arim? chon

ruy suye khane khammar darad pir ma

dar kharabat tarighat ma be ham manzel shuim

ka'in-chenin rafte ast dar ahd azal taghdire ma

aghl agar danad ke del dar band zalafash chon khosh ast

'aghlan divane garadanad az paye zanjire ma

ruy khubt aiti az lotf bar ma kashaf kard

zan zaman joz lotf o khubi nist dar tafsire ma

ba del sangint aia hich dargird shabi

ah atashnak o suz sine shabgire ma?

tire ah ma ze gardun bagazarad hafez khamush

raham kon bar jan khod parhiz kon az tire ma
